Year 2010
As Part of the exhibition ‘New Simplicity’ each designer was asked to design an object which utilised the unique process and materials of Rapid Manufacture. For this project Faudet Harrison chose to create tooling through rapid prototyping which enabled the production of a ‘mass’ produced looking object but in batch quantities. Inspired from the insight that leaving an i Phone cable freely lying in a bag allows dirt to get into the USB and phone connectors. The cable spindle keeps the i-Phone cable safe when not in use, both connections fit exactly into slots within the rubber body, around which the cable is spun. This protects the connections from damage and dirt, the connectors can always be accessed for charging and connection without having to unroll the cable.
